Winter Skincare: How to Protect Your Skin in the Cold Weather

In the winter seasons, you must take extra care to protect and moisturize your skin. The skin is the body’s largest organ and it needs to be taken care of since it protects the rest of the body. Change your moisturizer

The moisturizer that you use in the summer will not do during the winter. This means that you should choose anything that is rich in almond or avocado but avoid creams with Shea butter or cocoa since they clog pores.

Exfoliate

Gentle exfoliation at least once a week removes dead, dry skin from your forehead and cheeks. However, you should not overdo it. The skin takes a beating in the cold weather and scrubbing it too hard increases wear and tear, doing it more harm than good.

As for the rest of your body, you should use a homemade exfoliant like a mixture of salt and sugar. This can do wonders for your skin as it sloughs off dead cells and leaves it smooth to the touch.

Shorten your bath time

Have you ever gotten out of the bath feeling thirsty? Long baths in hot water can deplete your body of moisture. Although soaking in hot water can feel blissful in the winter, you should resist the temptation to soak for a long time. If you must soak for a long time, you should consider reducing the temperature of your water.

In the same vein, taking scalding showers can also deplete your skin of moisture. Therefore, you should reduce your shower time or the water temperature.

Eating right

If you are like most people, the first place you will go when you need skincare products is the drug department store. However, you should also know that eating the right foods could be beneficial for your skin. Omega 3 fatty acids make your skin look healthier and increase your heart health.

The foods that contain a lot of omega 3 include walnuts, seafood, and flax seed. The fatty acids contribute to the health of the cell membrane, which acts as a passageway for moving nutrients in and out of the cell. The cell membrane also keeps out harmful things by acting as a barrier.

Wear protective clothing

You need to protect your skin by wearing protective clothing. Gloves, scarves, and thick sweaters add an extra layer of protection to your skin. After moisturizing, you should wear the right items of clothing to seal and protect the moisture within your skin.

If you do everything above to take care of your skin in the winter, but fail to wear protective clothing, it would all be for nothing.
